What

Spring meltwaters flow off the hills and gather in Vernon Creek. When the high, fast water reaches this wetland it slows down, depositing fine silt, minerals and organic matter. Willows, cattails and hawthorns benefit from these nutrients, and they in turn help stabilize the wetland. Down at the very bottom of the food chain, tiny algae and microbes also benefit, and the wetland cycle of life is sustained.
